The Mist – Deceptively Made to Look Lame

Another "parent protects child frantically from monsters" movie? I think not.

Look, in the beginning, it seems like a normal horror movie. Parent stuck with kid. Disaster strikes. Handful of survivors. All goes well, until some people decide to chance it with the mist. At this point, prepare to get MILDLY disappointment with creature design and the graphics.

The survivors and the parent (who obviously becomes the leader of the pack) try to hold down the fort as much as possible. Unlike most horror movies I’ve seen, there’re rifts growing between some groups of survivors. One group is led by an increasingly insane woman that would make you punch the nearest Christian. Another is led by a black guy insisting that help is out there and co-incidentally hates the main character due to past legal disputes.

The survivors try to make it through the night as more and more creatures come by the store. They try various ways to get out and the such but they all fail miserably. In the end, they try to head towards the pharmacy next door to get medicine for a burn victim back in the store but they are attacked by similar creatures and two people die trying to escape.

Due to the failures of their expeditions, the group of people believing this insane woman who believes that this is the biblical “End of Days” increases overnight. Fuck, I’m telling you, the next person who starts preaching to you after you watch this movie, you’d wanna tie them to a lamp post and run your car into that person. Over and over and over again!

Either way, the Christian fanatics go way outta hand and evolve into a full-blown mob, sans the flaming torches and pitchforks but nevertheless effective and deadly. As expected, the mad evangelist decrees that there must be a sacrifice of blood to appease God. They polish off a soldier and feed him to the creatures lurking outside. The remainder of the sane people, led by the main character, plan to escape and drive off as far as possible from the mist.

Of course, no movie would be complete without the usual comeuppance and twists. I’m not going to spoil what happens next but trust me when I say that it’s going to be really satisfying. As the movie approaches to the end, some of you would probably realize what would happen next. Its one hell of a ending, trust me. It’s worth watching the whole movie just to get to the end.

Rating from ‘Ol Spiky: 4.5/5

Only the graphics and creature design was flawed. The rest were not bad. Please go watch it. If you liked this movie, I urge you to watch Room 1408 as well, starring John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson. It’s on helluva wicked movie and a mind-warping ending as well.

Peace out y’all.
