Day 4 – Out of Town

Sorry for skipping a day before the next post but I’ve been busy. Alright, here we go!

Before I start off, I think I dare say that this post will be relatively shorter because most of the time was spent travelling and everyone was snoozing in the car! So the plan was set into motion the previous day. We were to travel to Jebel Hafeet in Abu Dhabi today! Rushdi himself had never been there so it seemed a good trip at that time.

Snoozed all the way down the highway, saw one of the new train stations on the way there and it looked like the end of line there ‘cause loads of trains were parked there. No idea whether there’d be only 1 train going back and forth Dubai or like most cities, 2 trains or more going opposing ways to cover the most ground. Eventually we stopped at a gas station to grab some breakfast. Freakin’ hell man… I was beginning to doubt this mountain trip ‘cause the mist from last night hadn’t let up yet.

They've got a McDs, Subway, a cafeteria and the gas station has it's own market there

Total mist-out, dude...

There's mist here...

...and here. Pretty much everywhere!!!

Eventually we reached Abu Dhabi… it’s a whole lot more greener than Dubai and definitely looks a lot more quieter.

Oh the sunshine~

I think this is the mosque honouring Sheikh Zayed

We rolled over to the coastline first and stopped near a rocky bay. Weather was still fucking incredible and the sun had that nice warmth mixed right into it. Chooiiyyy… Amazing shit right there.

Can you spot the kitties?

Awesome deep blue seas

That's Abu Dhabi right across

Walking over to the rocks

Water looks so damn awesome

After getting enough shots of the surrounding area, we stepped around the end of the bay and started snapping people photos instead.

Took quite some effort getting over to that side

"ATTACCKKK~!!!"

Yeah~

Me and Rushdi

Yasmin and Raashid

Hero's pose

Yasmin blocking Rushdi

Some sibling love right there

We left eventually after savouring enough of the weather and went on to Marina Mall, attempting to get some clothes for Rushdi from a clothes chain called Splash. By the way he was saying Splash, which has pretty much like that Yahtzee scene from Family Guy, I knew that this wasn’t going to be a walk into Echo Park.

Getting back into the car

Nice structure by the rocks

Is that an airport? *shrug*

Yacht parking

Swank shit right there

Imagine the parties, dude...

After a screeching halt into a tight li’l parking spot, we walked into an adjacent block from Marina Mall, where Splash was and other home décor stores. Yeah, Splash was pretty gay and had the type of clothes that you would see Malay junkies in torn jeans walking in Petaling Street to have. Only thing that we could use from Splash is this…

The newest in bank robbery fashion

We split up from Yasmin and Raashid and walked over to the main block, Marina Mall later and saw this rather amusing uh, centerpiece.

Centrepiece fountain thingy. Was really entertaining!

No idea what would be the actual term for this centerpiece but let me explain how it “performs”. There are several pistons on the top that discharge bursts of water in varying volumes at varying speeds. The water falls onto the tiled surface below and then flows down into the circular drain around the pillar that supports the pistons. So, with the mechanism explained, the centerpiece does li’l performances and creates scenes, like how 2 streaks are chasing each other, intertwining and closing and opening circles, that kind of stuff.

We went looking around some more and stumbled into Carrefour and went inside to take a look see and I grabbed the usual milks and juices. *drool* Amazing shit. I eventually drifted over to the sheesha section and got shocked man… Sheesha flavour’s half the price of flavour back at Malaysia! Sheesha heads are 1/10th the price. You could literally buy crates of this shit and throw them at the wall for fun. In Malaysia… you’d tuck them into bed and kiss them on the head!

Eventually we regrouped and went to look for a place to have lunch. We settled on Indian food at the end. I was a bit nervous but then again, I thought to myself, “You’ve eaten Sri Lankan food. How bad can it be?”

That restaurant seriously showed me how bad it can be. I could’ve set the place on fire if I had farted. Shit was so spicy I swear they used chilli powder instead of flour into their naans! So after that torture session, we went on the Jebel Hafeet and I dozed off on a full stomach. Eventually we reached a point where we could see the lights that we lined up all the way up the mountain. We stopped at another gas station to grab some coffee and they needed to pray. As I stepped out of the truck, I saw this…

BABY CAMEL~!!!

It wasn't too pleased with the bondage treatment

I think it was smiling at me...

Dayem… cute li’l thing, ain’t it? With 2 cups of coffee behind us and another truck load of goats, we went off to the mountain. It was a long and winding ride up that rivals the Genting path. We went roaring up the mountain in the 4X4 and cut everyone while me and Rushdi were shouting random Japanese lines that were supposedly from Initial D. Stopped over in the middle to snap some pics and sample the weather…

Night time Abu Dhabi

Looks like a screenshot from an Initial D episode

City lights shining bright

It looks a hell lot better when you're there in person

Jebel Hafeet's a bare mountain... no foliage whatsoever

Taking it all in

Just felt slightly colder than the bottom but I knew the worst was yet to come. Shouted more Japanese drifting lines and eventually we reached the top! So much freakin people up there. Families, dudes just chilling with sheesha and people that have nothing better to do on New Year’s Day were all there. Eventually found a nice spot to park and were looking for a spot to take pictures of Abu Dhabi below.

Some kid rode up with this only

This doesn't do the view justice at all...

Checking out the view nicely...

Kinda got boring then in the end we went all the way down to a little restaurant so I could sample the sheesha there. Yasmin went with Raashid to the hot springs and Rushdi stuck with me. I seriously didn’t feel like touching any water, warm or cold after being half frozen up there. Me and Rushdi shared a pot of mint tea that just hit the spot with the sheesha.

Yasmin and Raashid came over and we sat around for awhile to finish up the sheesha and the tea and we went on home. Took about 2 hours to reach Dubai finally and then they dropped me off first at Panorama. Due to the prolonged snoozes I took I had a rough time falling asleep at night. I eventually ordered some room service and watched TV until I passed out. Good times!

So that was the 4th day of my Dubai trip. The date was the 1st of January, 2009 and the following day was Suheil’s wedding! Choooiiyyy~! Peace out y’all!
