Day 3 – The Ghettos of Dubai, Kerama

Woke up once every few hours ‘cause Taqi and Rushdi were talking into the wee hours of the day and they probably eventually fell asleep at around 4 or 5 a.m. So while they were snoozing I couldn’t make any noise at all. Went down to have breakfast, same old shlop. Wandered around the corridors, calling home and Rikaz as well. Tossed around bed, finished Beedle the Bard in record time and I eventually fell to sleep, waking up around noon and these dudes woke up as well. Took a few minutes to get up and running and we headed off to Rushdi’s place in Kerama.

Kerama residential buildings

After transferring the pictures from my camera and switching over to a fresh batch of batteries, we went out to lunch, to the famed Jabal Al Noor that Taqi talks about so much. This place serves cafeteria food and Arabic food as well. Awesome… We took a bus from a nearby bus station that was right before the bend to Kerama Hotel

Just walkin' through

See that? SnopDog! Hehehehe...

DJ Rashid! These dudes are crazy...

Bit of construction here in Kerama too

Another set of residential areas

Drug dealing going down... Nah, it's just Rushdi and his dad

The buildings across the bus stop

Pretty much cut the walk by ¾ and then we went on to Jabal Al Noor.

Jabal Al Noor. Good food. A'ite prices

Finally had the Chicken Lollypop that Rahul was obsessing about. Either wherever he had it made it better but the ones that I got were good, yeah, but nothing to go ballistic about. Finally had Falooda as well! Alright, these guys told me it was sirap bandung mixed with some uh, cendol-like thing, except it’s translucent white instead of green, jelly and ice cream. Sounded fucking amazing but what they gave me instead was a bloody ice-cream sundae. Got ripped off in this country too, dammit. We finished up, paid and went over to Lamcy Plaza, which was also in the area.

Local toys! Just like Malaysia. Lousy and usually spelt wrongly!

"Top Device" Sure...

Crane took down that building like *wham* Nah, just shitting you

Al Wasl Football Club, a local footie club. AC Milan or Real Madrid were set to play there soon

Took quite awhile to get there and on the way found out that Dubai had a bird sanctuary somewhere and the birds were free to explore the city. However, it seems that it had been messing up the ecology in the area. Like duh, man, when a new creature is introduced into the food chain, shit like that happens. Anyways, we made it to Lamcy Plaza and I was pretty shocked when I looked up.

Crap! What's he doing up there?!

He's even got clown makeup on!

Does it all day long... How does he do it?!

Yeah, that dude’s fake. According to Shakir later on, initially the putting up of this dude was met with much controversy. Old people used to almost get heart attacks looking at him, thinking he was a real dude ready to drop and little kids used to get spooked. He also apparently dresses for the occasion! Dresses like an Arab for Eid, or Hari Raya. I bought some perfume for myself and my mum from Swiss Arabia. The carry Arabian musks and French/Swiss perfume as well. I got some musk for myself and perfume for my mum. I was intrigued by some incense burning fragrance the lady offered me but I think the smell really doesn’t agree with me.

Sunset over the skyscrapers... Just beautiful

After that we skipped over to a sheesha parlour. Best place I’ve been to… Ambience is tight and everything. Sheesha was the bomb and mint tea is to die for. Place is called Exit and it’s on the nicer parts of Kerama. Played some cards with Rushdi and Taqi and sampled their exquisite mint sheesha. Amazing.

Exit! Love this place!

Across Exit

Ferrari something. Not too good with cars

Stopped playing after I whipped both their asses wide open. Never play cards with a yellow man if you’re not prepared to lose. Heh heh heh… Rushdi’s friend, Raashid came a while later and we went to 7 Nights Billiards for some pool. It wasn’t far from Exit so it was a short car ride.

7 Nights Billiards. Another cool place with class and tight ambience

Shaky hands there

Played about an hour of pool then we left back to Panorama ‘cause Taqi had to go pray in mosque somewhere in Bur Dubai. We accompanied him for dinner at KFC at Al Khaleej Centre and then he went his separate way. Me and Rushdi went back to Panorama to chill while waiting for Ashar to come fetch us. Seeing as it was New Year’s Eve, we were planning to go check out Atlantis! However, a foreboding mist was above us…

Finally the dude came and off we went. Long journey into Jumeira once again and we saw cops all lined up all the way and loads of people on the streets going to clubs and shit.

Monster truck!

I can't see shit... Wait, there's Jumeira Resort... or Hotel. Beats me.

Trying to get to Atlantis badly

Sad to say, there was some trouble leading up to Atlantis and we had to make a huge u-turn back and out and we eventually landed in a sad little restaurant – Eat & Drink. Pretty pathetic New Year’s Eve but I’ve never really had amazing ones.

Mist starting to grow...

Ashar then dropped me off and went off to send Rushdi back to Kerama. Crashed almost instantly. I can’t remember if this was the night I got to watch Cast Away… But anyways, brilliant movie! Peace out y’all!
